New York: Scientists have discovered why it is harder to keep weight off than to lose it. A team at Columbia University has shown the body’s internal systems act to restore fat levels in people who have slimmed down. The body appears to interpret the loss of weight as a deficiency in the appetite hormone leptin, and acts to try to restore the usual balance. The study features in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
It is estimated that more than 85% of obese people who have lost weight eventually put at least some of it back on. Research suggests this is due to a number of changes in the functioning of the metabolic, hormonal and nervous systems.
The team gave doses of leptin to lean and obese volunteers who had recently lost weight. They found that most of the metabolic and hormonal changes which mean people cannot keep the weight from creeping back on were reversed once leptin levels were restored to pre-weight loss levels.
Leptin is produced by the body’s fat (adipose) tissue. It is known to play a role in controlling appetite, but as yet the exact way that it works is unclear.
The researchers suggest that, after people have lost weight, the body feels the need to make more leptin and so forms new fat tissue to enable it to do that. Restoring leptin to preweight loss levels would mean it no longer feel that need. Injections of leptin have been used to help morbidly obese people with a deficiency of the hormone to lose weight, but a similar approach has no effect on obese people with normal leptin levels.
The researchers said it might eventually be possible to develop new drugs to keep weight off that work by targeting the way the body monitors leptin levels.
Lead researcher Dr Michael Rosenbaum told a website that historically it made sense our ancestors to defend their fat reserves, as they were often subjected to periods when food was scarce.
“We would predict that the human genome is heavily enriched with genes that defend body fatness and relatively lacking in genes that would oppose weight gain. We essentially have lived through hundreds of thousands of years of an environment that would encourage us to eat more and move less to preserve energy. We are in an environment where those traits are maladaptive.” NYT News ServiceRead More Articles at ChristianNotepad.com

Look at the life of Moses he was a very devoted prophet. He obeyed God in each and every step. The Bible says he heard from God and was in constant touch with God. He delivered Israelites from the bitter bondage of Egypt and led them to the land of Canaan with milk and honey. Do you know how much time it took them to reach Canaan? Forty years!! The Bible clearly says that Joshua and few others once went to spy this land and retuned after forty days. Num 13:17, “Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, ….” Num 13:25, “And they returned from spying out the land after forty days…” Num 13:27, ‘Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.”‘ So it was only few days of journey by foot not years. Bible says, “it was only eleven days journey.(Deu 1:2)” But what happened to them? How in the world somebody could wander for forty years, which could be reached by days. The Bible says, “the people were stiff necked and rebellious.” They were constantly murmuring and rebelling against God’s will and His servant Moses. That’s why God got pretty angry and He said this generation would not see the promised land. And the Bible says they wandered in wilderness going round and round around the mountain for forty years till the whole generation died.
Here we find many lost the promise of Promised Land and few who reached there also with much delay. If you are not hearing from God what to do and what not to do, how can you say what God has kept for you? Not only that when you will not hear the things and do not do it in right time how can you see your ministry promises getting fulfilled? Not only that but many times we hear from God and still fail to do it in time and it gets delayed and delayed.

How good is your prayer life? Does it matter your Christian life? Is prayerlessness a sin?
These Questions strikes most of Christian People. A Christian should reserve some time for Prayer. In other words, a Christian should start a day with prayer and end a day with prayer. It is time when you talk to your Heavenly father. Just like a child tells his needs to his dad, we have the right to tell our needs to Christ. Heaven is full of result that we haven’t prayed for yet… So if you want something from God, pray and ask and God shall provide it in time.
Prayer matter a Christian life. Satan doesn’t care how much you give or how often you go to church. But Satan will tremble and go away from you when you kneel down and start praying to Jesus. The more you pray, the more you grow in Christian life. You prayer can do a lot of things. God will use your prayer. God will honor your prayer.
Prayerlessness is a Sin. Jesus told and warned his disciples that they should be awake and pray. Jesus very clearly clarify it that every Christian must have a prayer life. If you lack prayer in your life, you lack lot of things. When you have no time to pray, Satan take advantage on your life. Your Christian life becomes weaker and weaker. But when you start praying, you get all spiritual strength.

Advice from Tal Ben-Shahar.
1. Give yourself permission to be human. When we accept emotions — such as fear, sadness, or anxiety — as natural, we are more likely to overcome them. Rejecting our emotions, positive or negative, leads to frustration and unhappiness.
2. Happiness lies at the intersection between pleasure and meaning. Whether at work or at home, the goal is to engage in activities that are both personally significant and enjoyable. When this is not feasible, make sure you have happiness boosters, moments throughout the week that provide you with both pleasure and meaning.
3. Keep in mind that happiness is mostly dependent on our state of mind, not on our status or the state of our bank account. Barring extreme circumstances, our level of well being is determined by what we choose to focus on (the full or the empty part of the glass) and by our interpretation of external events. For example, do we view failure as catastrophic, or do we see it as a learning opportunity?
4. Simplify! We are, generally, too busy, trying to squeeze in more and more activities into less and less time. Quantity influences quality, and we compromise on our happiness by trying to do too much.
5. Remember the mind-body connection. What we do — or don’t do — with our bodies influences our mind. Regular exercise, adequate sleep, and healthy eating habits lead to both physical and mental health.
6. Express gratitude, whenever possible. We too often take our lives for granted. Learn to appreciate and savor the wonderful things in life, from people to food, from nature to a smile.

77 Views Becoming a Prayer By : Christi Joel
Prayer is not primarily words that we say, formulas that we recite, postures that we maintain, or rituals that we perform. These are hopefully the results and expressions of the prayer that we are, and yet we often must do these very things to reconnect with the prayer that we are. That is the paradox, the bit of “doing” that reminds us and hopefully regrounds us in our Deepest Being. It is not a practice that turns God on. “Why do you babble on as the pagans do,” Jesus says.

The feast commerates the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his execution. This was the only day in which Jesus Christ set aside His ministerial role to make a political statement before His covenant people. Many Christians and Messianic Jews regard this event as the terminus of the first 69 weeks of Daniel’s Prophecy of Seventy Weeks, and thereby a very holy day. Even setting this aside, the nature of the entry and its circumstances are usually deemed enough to warrant a special feast.
It was also a common custom in many lands in the ancient Near East to cover, in some way, the path of someone thought worthy of the highest honour. All of the Gospels report that people gave Jesus this honor. In Mark, Matthew, and Luke they are reported as laying their garments and cut rushes on the street. John is the only Gospel to specifically mention palm branches. The palm branch was a symbol of triumph and victory (Leviticus 23:40 - Feast of Tabernacles, and Revelation 7:9). Because of this the detail of the palm branches and the scene of the crowd greeting Jesus as he entered Jerusalem by waving palm fronds, and carpeting his path with them, has given the day its name.
The prophecy often cited as having been fulfilled by the Triumphal Entry reads as follows:
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and having salvation,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and the war-horses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the [Euphrates] River to the ends of the earth. (Zech. 9:9-10, NIV)
