Writing Standards and Projects Devoted to their Enhancing

There were many projects devoted to the problems of literacy, different methods of increasing the writing standards, but we are going to describe the most interesting and unusual.

The Billesley Paired Writing Project is a project connected with raising of writing standards. Scientists observed children within Year 5 and employing drama to stimulate the writing. Pupils of the Year 5 composed books for the younger audience, the pupils of the Year 3. The children found this work very interesting and bringing much fun. In this program (Paired Writing) took part children with special educational requirements. Later it embraced the whole school. The project confirmed the possibility of blocking time set for writing. The feedback of the pupils that took part in this project was very positive. The program gave positive results in increasing writing standards and the success of the project attracted the attention of other schools.

Another project also connected with writing standards is called The Dame Ellen Pinsent Project. The founders of this program took pupils of the same age for writing projects. It is staggering but this project ended successfully despite of the participated children that were very difficult. They had the same objectives as the project described earlier: writing standards (creative writing), which they wanted to raise. In order to reach their aims they created a social-emotional agenda. Their major goals were the increase of diversity of writing, enlargement of the vocabulary and development of communication and social skills. It should be noted that school which created this project is for children with moderate learning difficulties, including pupils with autism and linguistic heritage. It is one of the most difficult projects and it deserves special emphasis. This work got a very qualitative evaluation.
