What's Happening in There?

You know that your precious bundle of joy is developing and growing, but did you have any idea that such a tiny thing could take over your entire body for nine months? Here's an overview of what you might experience during the first trimester along with a few tips to help you alleviate any discomfort:

"Morning" Sickness. The term "morning" is a misnomer. Truthfully, you might experience this nausea and vomiting at any time of the day or all day long. It can be triggered by eating too much, eating the wrong food, not eating enough, strong smells - or nothing at all.
TIP: If you are experiencing morning sickness, try to keep track of when it happens so that you can start narrowing down the triggers. You may be able to prevent a wave of nausea if you eat a few crackers or sip some juice. If you consistently feel ill when you get out of bed in the morning, try keeping some crackers on your night stand. Eat a few before you get out of the bed in the morning.

Tender Breasts. Your breasts may feel tender and seem like they are "growing" even before you have a positive pregnancy test. This swelling and tenderness is common in the first trimester.
TIP: Treat yourself to a new bra; just make sure that it's very supportive to help ease the tenderness.

Fatigue. Some people say that it's your body giving you advanced practice for what life is like with a newborn, but in your first trimester, it's sometimes hard to deal with the extreme exhaustion you may be feeling.
TIP: If you can, schedule 30 minutes in the afternoon where you can close your office door and take a rest (or nap) without interruptions. If you can't do that, allow yourself to go to bed early - and enjoy it while you can!

Baby Fact:
By 21 days after conception, your baby's heart has started beating!

Did you know?
Wearing slim fitting clothing gives you a more slender appearance (even during pregnancy). Face it; you're never going to hide that growing bump completely and the traditional muumuus and large shirts just add extra fabric, folds and areas which make you look even bigger. Go ahead, be a "Foxy Mama" and show off your curves!

Playing the Name Game?

If you already have the perfect name picked out and your partner agrees with you, consider yourselves lucky! For some couples, choosing the perfect name is an agonizing experience and sometimes even the source of many squabbles. If you feel like you've hit a road block, here are a few tips to help you get back into the game:

1. Separately make a list of names that you each like. Switch lists. Who knows, maybe you will have a name or two in common. If not, look for names that are similar and start your discussion there.

2. If you and your partner have extremely different tastes in names, give each other three (or however many you want) vetoes to completely remove names from the conversation. Both of you need to remember, though, to keep an open mind and only use the vetoes for the names that you absolutely cannot live with!

3. If one of you prefers traditional names and the other prefers more modern names, why not put a modern twist on a traditional name? Try variations in the length, spelling and pronunciation.

4. If you're still stuck, look over the top names of 2007 to give you some ideas.
