Was the Reconstruction in the USA so Devastating as some Historians Believe?

In 1866 the 14th Amendment was introduced into the Constitution of the United States. This amendment gave to the people born in the United States (it didn’t concern the Native Americans) the right for citizenship and the civil rights. The 15th Amendment inserted in the year 1850 guaranteed all people the right to vote independently of their color and race. So, in spite of the critical evaluations of the author of the book concerning the consequences of the Reconstruction the reforms carried out during this period were quite positive. Owing to the reforms which were effected during the Reconstruction all the people (proletariats and bourgeoisies) received a variety of rights and freedoms.

Furthermore, the role and importance of Abraham Lincoln, famous historical figure, is hard to overestimate. He took part in the abolition of the slavery. Most historians as well as DuBois think that one of the major achievements of Abraham Lincoln is the introduction of the 13th Amendment and this idea has a proof in the book “Black Reconstruction” and namely the speech of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln believed that he wanted every person to have a chance, irrespective of his or her race and color, to better the conditions of his life, to have a job, to be a hired laborer and maybe later work for himself and hire other people. That is how the system should have worked to his opinion.
In the end, it should be said that DuBois expressing his views concerning the negative results of the Reconstruction of the south provided many arguments so as to support his opinion and there were no big problems connected with the sources that the author implied in his book. Although other historians have more positive evaluations of the Consequences of the reconstruction, DuBois can not be blamed for his striving for defending the right of the African Americans and being the follower of the Marxism theory.
