Toronto Hearing Aids refer to the small electronic devices, which amplify the sounds, making them accessible to those who have hearing loss. They are made of a microphone, an amplifier, a receiver and a speaker, and powered by special Hearing Aids Batteries. They receive the sound waves through the microphone, which converts them into amplified electrical signals. These ones are passed through the receiver and reconverted back into sound waves, being directed into the ear through the speaker.

The hearing loss is a very common chronic health condition, which may vary from mild to profound or total loss of hearing. It can be either hereditary, or it can be caused by a disease, a trauma, or a long-term exposure to damaging noise or medications. There are three different types of hearing loss: Conductive hearing loss (which affects the ear canal or the eardrum), Sensorineural hearing loss (which affects the inner ear or the auditory nerve) and Mixed hearing loss (which is a combination of the two). The hearing loss affects people of all ages, in all segments of the population, and across all socioeconomic levels. The hearing aids are the most widely used devices, which help people to improve their hearing.

There is a wide range of Toronto Hearing Aids, depending on the advantages, the design, the style, the levels of amplification, the size and the inside mechanisms. If considering the style, there are four main types: In-the-Ear (ITE), Behind-the-Ear (BTE), In-the-Canal (ITC) and Completely-in-Canal (CTC). ITE hearing aids are usually used for mild to severe hearing loss, being fit completely in the outer year. BTE hearing aids, on the other hand, are settled behind the ear and connected to the outer ear through a plastic ear mold. They are used for mild to profound hearing loss. ITC and CTC hearing aids are fit into the ear canal and are used for mild to moderately severe hearing loss. While the ITC are customized to fit the size and shape of the ear canal, the CTC are largely concealed in the ear canal, being the least visible. Beside these basic styles, there are also additional ones, which are less available and less common. They may include: Over-the-Ear (OTE) Hearing Aids, which are small Behind-the-ear type devices but with a much finer tube connecting the ear canal, Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA), which are surgically implanted auditory prosthetics, Eyeglass aids, which are hearing aids built into the temple pieces of the spectacles, or Wireless Hearing Aids (WHA).

If considering the inside mechanisms and types of circuitry, there are three types of Toronto Hearing Aids: Analog/Adjustable, Analog/Programmable, and Digital/Programmable. The Analog/Adjustable hearing aids refer to the laboratory interpretation of the necessary specifications determined by the audiologist. The Analog/Programmable hearing aids, on the other hand, involves the use of a computer in order to accommodate a given listening environment. The last type, the Digital/Programmable hearing aids, uses a digital circuit, made of a microphone, a receiver, a battery, and computer chip.

The Hearing Aids Batteries are also categorized, depending on the size. Thus, there are five standard types: Size 5, Size 10 (or 230), Size 13, Size 312 and Size 675. Each number is associated with a certain color, as follows: Size 5 with red, Size 10 with yellow, Size 13 with orange, Size 312with brown and Size 675 with blue. Generally, the batteries last from 7 to 14 days, if considered the 16 hours per day use cycle. The battery life depends on its size (the smaller the battery size, the shorter the battery life), on the amount of time the hearing aids are used and on the power consumed over time. Normal batteries should be changed every 10 to 14 days. The Hearing Aids Batteries are usually activated through the ‚zinc-air’ circuit: the oxygen in the air contacts the zinc within the battery and turns it on.
