During the Christmas season, it is very fun and enjoyable to play gift exchange games in office to enliven the atmosphere. Two of the most popular Christmas gift exchanges games of all times are the Secret Santa and White Elephant games. Not only are these games the popular office gift exchange games but they are pleasurable and interesting. Let us find out how the White Elephant gift exchange game actually works! There are no strict rules guiding the exact value of gift and specific type or nature of gifts that a person selects for the games. These conditions are generally different due to different quantity of people involved and other factors affecting the office and its staffs. It requires each participant to buy a present of certain predetermined value indicted by the responsible personnel of the office and the game, for instance five dollars to twenty dollars. The recommended gift theme should focus on the fun element of the gift which contributes to a merrier and exciting game that entertains all the participants in all ways. The best object would be one that is non practical but captures attention and something which everyone would want. In this gift exchange game, every participant will receive a number which is equivalent to the number of one of the gifts brought by all participants for that game. This number will be drawn out among all others from a box, hat or something else used to contain these numbers. The game, therefore, starts with person who draws out the lucky number 1 who initiates by picking a present for him or herself. After opening the present, he or she can retain it but every opened gift in the rules of this game will be subject to stealing by other participants. When it comes to the person who draws number 2, there are two options lying in front for this second person. He or she can either steal away the first present from the first person or choose to open a different gift. Bear in mind that all opened gifts even though can be potentially stolen by anyone; these gifts can only be stolen up to maximum of three times. The participants should therefore be advised to think twice before opening the gift unless they are very sure that they do not wish to steal other gifts and make the decision to retain their choices of gift. As every participant proceeds to their turns in the game, each of them will receive a gift after all their turns. At the end of the game, the person who was the first to open a present can steal a gift if they choose, since they didn't have an opportunity earlier. In this gift exchange game, there is never a surprise if the gift ends up in the hands of its initial owner, who bought that gift for the game. To allow the game to live up to its interesting and fun factors, there must be that one gift which is so appealing to every participant who is looking forward to steal it times and again. Therefore, the excitement will arouse with the game when everyone is figuring who will be the final owner of that most popular gift. Originally the "white elephant" gift exchange was a way for people to "regift" or give someone a gift they themselves received and don't want. For a fun twist, you could ask people to bring something from their home like that, or you can require they purchase something (with the aforementioned limit on spending). There are many varieties of the Secret Santa game, which is so popular in offices, but one option that's fun involves putting a dollar limit on the purchase and having participants actually make "Santa lists". Here's how it works: Those participating create a little list for "Santa". There should also be a dollar limit placed on this gift exchange, so if that is $10, then people should only list items on their Santa list that can be purchased for $10 or less. After each and every participant has created their own Santa lists, they are required to put these lists in a box or a hat and by taking turns, they have to draw out a list for this box or hat. The Santa list that the person draws out will be the item or gift that he or she has to purchase for that particular recipient making the wish list. This person will know for who he or she will be shopping for; however, the recipient will not have any idea who will be his or her secret Santa. The Secret Santa must then make sure that the gift is delivered to the colleagues desk secretly and be careful not to reveal his or her identity. Most of the time, the participants will be given the choices of whether or not to sign off the present they bought. By signing off the gift, the recipient is able to show appreciation for the gift. If the secret is to remain undisclosed, then lets just make the gift-giving an interesting and anonymous fun game.
