Christmas is supposed to be a time of celebration and joy. Unfortunately, due to the bustle that surrounds the Christmas holiday season it often turns into a real hassle. So, in the end, rather than enjoying the season, many people just spend the whole time harried and unhappy. Taking time out to relax, however, and prioritizing, can actually help you enjoy the Christmas season much more. Remember, do not overdo things. Chalk out a list of people to whom you wish to send gifts and greetings for Christmas. Here as well the golden rule of not overdoing things holds good. There is no reason why you should send gifts to all your acquaintances. Simply send a greeting but that too not to those who have not been keeping in touch for too long. This will reduce your work a lot. Also, remember to keep token gifts like chocolates and nuts wrapped and ready to give out as unexpected gifts. Before getting down to your Christmas preparations make a 'To do' list keeping those things on the top that have high priority. Start doing things priority wise so that you can leave out the avoidable things if the schedule gets hectic. Do not try to do everything in little time. This can mess up things and leave you stressed out. It is better to host a casual party than a formal dinner during the Christmas time. You can still keep on your nice clothes without making it a high dinner affair. Enliven the party with perky games and lots of handy yet elegant finger foods. It is wise to have a sandwich buffet for the guest where they can build their own sandwich and leave you with no serving worries. Do remember to keep this sandwich bar stocked with readily available nice hors 'd oeuvres. One of the biggest stressors associated with Christmas, especially if you have children, can be traveling to see relatives on Christmas. You can significantly reduce your stress at this time of the year by deciding not to visit any relatives at Christmas, and instead having a small family event. As long as you are consistent in not visiting anyone on Christmas, then no one can accuse you of trying to avoid them or playing favorites. Instead, travel to visit relatives two or three days after the holiday and stay for the New Year holiday. This way you can still visit relatives during the holiday season, but you are less stressed by having to rush through Christmas on someone else’s schedule. Finally, clean up a little at a time. Rather than leaving everything to the last minute clean up, pick up a few things at a time. Have a garbage bag on hand when you open presents. Instead of throwing paper and packaging on the floor, put directly into the bag. Also, throw things away as they are used, and have everyone load their dishes in the dishwasher right after dinner. Doing these little things will mean much less mess later. This is not to say that you can completely avoid Christmas stress, but you can certainly reduce the stress by pacing yourself and refusing to allow the Christmas season to overtake your life beyond your control.
