The place of the story is New York and Long Island (East and West Eggs), the year of the actions is the summer of 1922. The chief protagonist is Nick Caraway. He rented the house the area of West Egg, and as usual resident had the neighbor. One of such neighbors is young, spendthrift and very wealthy Jay Gatsby.
The situation gets more complicated when we see that Jay loves Daisy, Nick’s cousin and she is a wife of Tom. Jay wants that Nick helps him to see Daisy in order to try to explain his feelings and to break the family. The meeting took place and the results were evident, they turn to be the lovers. The situation gets worst when Tom becomes aware about the cheating of his wife and tries to cheat as well. His lover’s name is Myrtle.
When Daisy and Jay went to East Egg, she by chance hits Myrtle and the last dies. The widower is aware that Jay is connected to the death of his wife. Myrtle’s husband kills Jay. Above mentioned Nick, who helped to arrange that very meeting, leaves the town, leaves his friends, leaves Long Island and goes to the north with a desire to begin new life if it is possible.
