The Indestructibility of the Church

The Scriptures give a very significant description of both the power of the church and its indestructibility. The founder of the church was not Simon Peter, as some may believe, but it was Jesus Christ, who gave the most precious commodity that can be given when He gave His life and shed His precious blood. The church is built upon Christ and His death upon the cross.
Who is Jesus Christ? According to the Word of God, He is the Lord of everything and specifically He is the head of the church (Colossians 1:16-18). In the Book of Revelation, His person is explained to the Apostle John: "And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, fear not; I am the first and the last: I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death" (Revelation 1:17-18).

In this beautiful expression out of the Book of Revelation, there are easily recognizable characteristics that pertain to the Lord Jesus Christ having to do with His eternal power and deity. Yet humanistic educators seek to discredit the person of Christ. They want to strip Him of His deity and deny His claims to be God incarnate; they attempt to associate His identity and His purpose with defeat; moreover, they seek to thwart His church and its mission.

Unfortunately, many educated ministers of our time subscribe to a humanistic view of Jesus Christ. Week after week they stand in pulpits to deny the power that is manifest through the person of Jesus Christ. They discredit the supernatural by denying the virgin birth and the sonship of Jesus, and they reject His lordship. Then with the scissors of reason they cut up everything that has to with the treasure that comes to us from the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

When the church was first brought into existence on the Day of Pentecost, it was a power-baptized church. It was a church that was endued from heaven. Men were thrilled and filled with the Holy Spirit. They went forth into a dying world, declaring the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
