People’s Morals Differ

The people who have resources to help a charitable cause are more likely to support people within their native town, country. They are not going to help a charitable cause that is shown on TV screen asking for support for country that many miles away. The major cause for lack of help is that people think that they must help themselves in the first place and then they can support others. People are too caught up in their difficult lives so they do not see, do not notice many things. Besides, distance makes a great difference. People irrespective of their moral correctness are not going to give their hard earned money to be used on something in some place they have never been and evidently will never go, when they could donate their money to a charitable cause they can in actual fact be witnesses of. Taking this fact into consideration, the statement concerning justification for discriminations on geographical grounds is erroneous.

Although Peter Singer is right saying that when we purchase new clothing not because we are cold and want to get warm, but to have good looks we are not providing for any essential need, so it is very important to decide what item is need and what is wanted. So who defines the difference between needed and wanted? The man who needs or wants decides himself whether the thing is needed or only wanted. Singer suggestion that we should avert as much suffering as possible on conditions that no sacrificing of commensurable moral importance in full depends on each person’s definition of what is important in moral sense and what is not. As each individual has his own morals, what is considered important by one person can be absolutely unimportant to another. Singer’s suggestions although sound good, but are not reachable. As each individual’s morals are dissimilar, there will never be an idealistic world where every person gives a helping hand to the deprived and suffering people.
