Online Dating; Are You Thinking, Considering and Contemplating When Actually You Should Just Do It

Are your friends constantly trying to get you to meet someone new? Are you fed up of being the only single person at parties? Perhaps you've ended a long term relationship and are only just coming to terms with being 'me' rather than 'us'. Whatever your reason for being on the dating scene, or hanging around the edge of it, there really is no reason not to take the plunge and give online dating a go. It's a great way to get back into the swing of things and I'm losing count of the people I know who have met this wayit's fast becoming the 'norm'. Here are some of the common reasons I hear from people for not just doing it

What if it goes wrong? If a relationship doesn't work out, it can be a painful process to go through. However, we've all heard the old saying It is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all and besides, what if it goes right or you end up meeting a really good friend? You may be worried about something that isn't going to happen to you. Think positive and act positive and you'll get the most out of online dating.

I'll just wait and see if anyone turns up Whilst it's true that in days gone by people used to meet their partners through people they knew, at work etc. this is on the decline. In online dating, like most other things in life these days, there is now much more opportunity to meet lots of different types of people that you might never normally meet in your everyday life. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of the chance to meet someone completely different and who knows, they might just be your soul mate.

I can't take rejection; The more people you make contact with will the more people you won't want to maintain contact with, or won't want to maintain contact with you. It's just a fact of life and shouldn't be seen as rejection but as education. Online dating gives you, and other people online, the opportunity to meet a much broader section of out worldwide community. Some of whom you'll like, some of whom you won't. So don't take it personally, enjoy the experience and move on and you'll get the most from online dating.

I can't find the time; Life is pretty busy for most of us these days and finding the time to even think about online dating, never mind actually doing it, can be enough to put some people off. If you think about it though, time you invest creating your online dating profile is actually time you invest in understanding yourself better which is something we should all try and do occasionally. And once you are actually on an online dating site then the time you spend communicating with others is social time that you should be finding for yourself anyway. So stop making excuses and allocate some time specifically for online dating and you'll be glad you did.

Online dating is risky; It is true that some people using online dating sites may not telling the truth, or could even be trying to con you, but then that's true about some people you meet in bars, or the park or even at work possibly! Whilst you are communicating online then you will be able to get a sense of the person you are dealing with and you will find you develop a gut instinct for people online. Online dating is certainly no more dangerous than many other things in life and you do have control and protection from the dating site until you choose not to. Remember, most people are genuine, so use you intuition, take sensible precautions when you communicate and particularly when you meet but don't let fear stop you, relax and have fun.

There really is no good reason for not giving online dating a try. It's socially acceptable these days, opens up a world of potential dates quite literally and can be a whole lot of fun. If you are in a rut or simply disillusioned then give online dating a try, spend some time and effort getting your personal ad right and enjoy yourself, you know you want to!
