In most parts of the US the lawn mover makes a regular Saturday morning appearance. On a nice sunny morning you will be able to hear the hum of the lawn mowers as they keep up with the never ending task of clipping the lawn to perfection. A great number of people absolutely love this pursuit, and as many again think it is a necessary chore, one that has to be attended to as quickly as possible so that more interesting activities can be enjoyed. It should come as no surprise that the owners of the beautiful gardens we see on our daily travels actually look forward to and enjoy the time spent working with their lawn mover. Not only are they increasing the value of their home, but they are spending their time in a most satisfying way. Motivation is as simple as being rewarded by the sight of their beautifully lush lawns, trimmed to perfection. First time owners of a lawn mover have to carefully weigh up many issues before they make their purchase. For many of us, lawn movers have always been a part of our life, but for others their first experience is when they are faced with caring for a lawn for the very first time. Lawn movers come with many different features at many different prices. Expect to pay several thousand dollars for a top of the range push lawn mover but it will last many years with hardly any maintenance. There are several things to be considered when purchasing a lawn mover. Firstly the size of lawn will dictate whether you will be best suited to either a push mover or a ride on mover, or something in between. Your budget is also going to dictate to a large extent the lawn mower that you buy. Even such things as your physical fitness and wellness are things to consider, with the self propelled push lawn movers being worth the extra money for anyone who does not enjoy good health but still wants to be responsible for their own lawn maintenance. Even if we have a great liking for the time we spend on our lawns, most of us do want the job to be easy. For those of us with a busy lifestyle, fitting lawn mowing in with our family commitments means that we need a lawn mover that is quick, reliable and does a good job. This then leaves more time for all those other important things that we like to do on our weekends. Today's modern lawn mover has come a long way from the noisy, machines of the past. Anyone who was cutting lawns even 20 years ago knows how temperamental they used to be, particularly on starting. Superior blades also have made the world of difference in the type of cut that is now available. The first lawn mover made its appearance around 150 years ago. This was the simple reel mower which was invented in the late 1820's. This type of mover is still used today by a small number of people who find that it is perfect to maintain their patch of lawn. What they lose in technology they more than make up by being so environmentally friendly. As outdoor sporting activities such as croquet, lawn bowls, cricket, tennis etc. gained in popularity, the lawn mover underwent massive technological advancements. It didn't take long for this technology to be incorporated into smaller movers for home use. The first rotary-blade lawn mover made its appearance back in the 1930's but today the push lawn mover is the one that is used extensively in our suburban gardens.
