We're on the plane, high above the clouds, on our way to our honeymoon destination. All of a sudden out of nowhere I hear my hubby spontaneously exclaiming: "Hey; I'm married, you know!" A sudden revelation! Yes, a fact that the head and body both knew, but now, all of a sudden it had sunk deeply into the heart. Yes, it's true. It wasn't a fairy tale; it really happened: we were married! So it is with our relationship with the Lord. You accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior because you loved Him, didn't you? And you understand that He loves you with an everlasting love, right? Furthermore, are you absolutely sure that He will never leave you nor forsake you? I assume the answers are yes, if you believe His Word. Question: Do you know that you're married? Did you ever have that "aha" moment when your heart practically leaped out of your chest and you blurted out: "Hey; I'm married, you know!" and wanting everyone to hear it? Yes, you are married to Jesus Christ! I had that revelation just recently. I know that He bought me with His Blood, is the husband of the widowed, and we are His Bride. My head understood it. Yet my heart still had not grasped the deep, personal revelation of being married to the Lord. The Lord is no respecter of persons. (Rom. 2: 11) What He has done for one He will do for others. When He refers to the nation of Israel, He also speaks to the Church, as well as to individuals. One morning during my quiet time with Him He revealed Himself as my husband through Jeremiah 3: 14. There He tells the backslidden people of Judah, who had turned to other gods, to come back: "for I am married to you." No matter how much you love your spouse or believe the ideal, perfect spouse would be, He is the epitome. There is no Love like His Love. He describes His infinite Love throughout the Bible. But nowhere does He more intimately and beautifully describe His physical, emotional and spiritual love for you as in the Song of Solomon. "I am my beloved's and his desire is towards me." (Song: 7: 10) Through the use of Solomon's physical and emotional senses, Jesus describes Himself as the ultimate lover. He loves you with such a perfect love that no human being is capable of giving. His love is so totally unselfish, without wanting or needing anything in return, that it's way beyond how you could imagine the perfect mate. No matter how little you love Him in return or how far you may stray, His marriage oath to you will never ever be broken. He will always continue loving you and He will never leave you nor forsake you. (Heb. 13: 5) You did not even choose Him. He has chosen you! "I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." (Jer. 31: 3) Are you looking, hoping and praying for the perfect spouse? Look no further. Give yourself wholeheartedly to Him. He will satisfy all your longings and yes, even provide you with the right earthly spouse whom He has already picked for you. In the meantime, love Him, totally "casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." (1 Peter 5: 7) If your spouse does not meet your standards, don't be sad, frustrated and ready to give up. Remember; there is no one, regardless of how perfect they seem in your eyes, who can come remotely close to your First Love! Yes, Jesus is your first love. He provides the example, the tools, the words of wisdom and the love. He is the only One whom you can entrust with your most intimate feelings and thoughts. He will never reject or disappoint you. Just as God walked with Adam, He has always wanted to have a close relationship with you. He doesn't just want to talk when you need Him. He wants you to fully embrace Him and include Him in all your deeds and desires. During your daily quiet times with Him, ask Him to show you what it means to be married to Him. He surely will reveal Himself to you, and you, too, will exclaim: "Hey; I'm married, you know!" "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." (1 John 4: 8)
