Flying gift experience

Extreme sports are constantly being devised, whether it's jumping from rooftop to rooftop of skyscrapers, strapping yourself to an elastic cord and hurling yourself off a cliff, or climbing a mountain without a harness, there are always a select few people who don't consider something a sport unless it includes an element of danger. As always, there are plenty of groups who are happy to provide these people with what they want, be it a rock-climbing course, flying experience days or the bungee rope and a gentle nudge.

While flying days make an eye-opening experience for anyone, it depends somewhat on the vehicle propelling you through the air. Hang gliders and Para gliders are standard fare for flyboys and girls, but a great start for those who are just starting out in the world of extreme sports, or those without much flying experience. Skydiving is substantially more adrenaline-fuelled, but for those who couldn't imagine plummeting thousands of feet through the air, indoor skydiving is becoming increasingly popular: using a wind tunnel and a whole lot of air pressure, it's possible to simulate speeds equivalent to 100+mph. Isn't technology fantastic? These are the kind of experiences that can live with you forever - making them great ideas for gifts that just keep on giving.

Of course, each of these activities comes with its own learning curve. Hang gliding trainers say it takes around 10 days of flying in good weather to train a total newbie to the level of Club Pilot, but a great gift idea would be a 2-day taster course, which would grant the receiver a good understanding of the basics, as well as a limited Elementary Pilot certificate - a flying gift experience!
