Dream Cancun Resorts - Should a Christian Feel Guilty for Taking Time Off? -

"Be still and know that I am God."

How can a dream Cancun resort allow me to be still and know God? I finally figured it out. During my busy weeks, even though I may take time to notice some of the most beautiful sunsets, the gorgeous multi-colored leaves during the fall season surrounding our home in the Laurel Mountains of Pennsylvania, or the full moon that greets us as we approach the crest on the road leading to our home, I don't always take the time I need to spend with the Lord in one-to-one conversation and prayer.

Sure, I fire off prayers all day long. I don't know how anyone can get through a day not firing off prayers, but they aren't the kind of in-depth prayers or listening for answer type of time that I think Christ is seeking from us.

I can only tell you that when I walked out onto the deck overlooking the Mexican Riviera, it took my breath away. All I could think of was "God, Your creation is magnificent." Even my 17 year old son was overwhelmed by the beauty of the colors in the waters surrounding the white powdery sand. The resort was beautiful and we were there. I think I thanked God a thousand times a day while I was there. The beauty back home was amazing, but this beauty was awesome.

After taking several vacations, I now look forward to them in peace. My routine includes daily bible reading and prayer on a quiet balcony or in a quiet area overlooking crystal clear blue-green waters in one of the dream Cancun resorts. The beauty, the quiet, the bible reading, the prayer, and having the time to thank God all through out the day with few interruptions has made me look forward to vacations. After all, it is truly one of the few times I get to be alone with God without all of the distractions of the every day world around me.

Don't ever discount how the Lord can work during your vacation as well. During my last trip to Play del Carmen Mexico, Playacar Palace Resort, I met a beautiful Christian woman, a Mexican, who works for the Palace Resorts. It's so amazing how God puts people together. She was setting me up for a meeting for me to see the newest resorts and possibly purchase additional timeshare weeks. Her name is Elena.

After we started talking, we started to share a few personal moments. It was then that her words convinced me that we were on the same spiritual wave length. We began to discuss our families and our Christianity. She asked me if I needed prayer for anything and I asked her the same. Her sister's young adult son had been killed suddenly in a motorcycle accident that very week and she, to this day, needs prayer. Her name is Lola for anyone who would like to lift her up before the Lord. It just goes to show that God works wonders in the middle of his wonderous creation and that tragedy still occurs in the midst of a beautiful Cancun sunset. Yet, God is still there. He truly is everywhere and so are His people.

So don't feel guilty about taking a vacation and taking time to appreciate God's beauty away from every day life. You never know what circumstances He will put you in even while you are away.
