The aim of the response paper consists in discussing of two reading: The World’s Religions by Huston Smith and Mary Pat Fischer Living Religions: Western Traditions. These two books have certain differences: one book covers all the religions of the world and the other one only western traditions. In spite of this they have one common feature: significant parts of the works are dedicated to Christianity in the modern times, the authors study and analyze it.

The book of Huston Smith named The World’s Religions is devoted to the traditions, principles and values of Christianity in the modern world. The author describes Christianity selective, but he gives a very comprehensive overview and focuses his attention on the points which are important nowadays. The book tells about the largest faith in the whole world, about its principles, values. Huston Smith describes the period of Christianity before its separation into three branches: Orthodox, Catholic and Protestants. His interpretation of this period is very advanced and modern. But not all his statements are considered to be progressive.
Religious views of Huston Smith are made up by two attitudes to the Bible and other religions: from one side it is rather liberal and from the other quite orthodox.

Mary Pat Fisher the author of the book Living Religions: Western Traditions dedicated a substantial part of her work to Christianity. She describes its aspects, values, origin, some teachings of the Western part of the world. She describes the issues in connection with our existence and experience, with such notions as love, death, compassion etc. The author illustrates the largest religions, its doctrines. Mary Pat observes how different religions interlace in the modern Western society. She studies the influence of non-religious world on these religions and their doctrines.

Both Huston Smith and Mary Pat Fisher are Christians, their faith is very strong and their works only confirm it.
