Yes, it can happen to you, but only if you don't learn to discern. Before you spend a penny on the Internet to build a business, pray, pray, and pray some more and then, do your homework. I was so excited about getting started after reading my first sales pitch on the front page of AOL. Two successful millionaires wanted to personally mentor and create 100 new millionaires in one year. Key words. . . "mentor" and "millionaire" caught my attention. I am a "hands-on learner. I like to watch and have people walk me through visually what I need to know. I don't like to read long manuals, although my hobby is reading (Christian fiction is my favorite like the Left Behind series and others). Because of this, I was thrilled to know I could apply to be mentored by two of the most successful internet marketers in the world. I read the details and decided this was for me. I sort of prayed about it but not for long because both individuals claimed to be "Christians"! What more did I need? Being a Christian meant that ethical, caring, loving, genuinely concerned individuals would show me how to get where I wanted to go. . . A guarantee? Well, they had that too! In writing no less. . . I would be mentored by two successful Christian millionaires and become one myself while being given an iron clad written guarantee. Sound good? You bet. It sounds great! I filled out the online form which took over an hour. I bared my soul with my hopes and dreams and answered the general financial questions. I then submitted the form and hoped I would be chosen. The next day, I received a phone call. I was being invited to have a telephone interview because the representatives of these two fine millionaires said I had what it takes to be successful. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was. I was on the phone with the first representative for about an hour. He told me that he would be evaluating our conversation and if I passed the test, I would speak with his manager who would also evaluate me. But, before I could do that, I had to make a commitment. I had to make a payment toward the program. Then the financial questioning began and the pressure began. I was told that I had to sign up then and there or I would not be considered for the program. Backing out because I didn't want to make a financial commitment showed a sign of weakness and inability to make up my mind. It showed that I really wasn't sure that I wanted to put in the time necessary or do what it takes to become a millionaire. This guy was good. He made me feel like a speck of sand in the vast oceans of the world. By the time he was done, I felt so badly about myself that I pulled out not one, but two credit cards to cover the cost. What happened to "neither a borrower nor a lender be?" my mind warned me. But I forged ahead. After all, he convinced me that I was using "Other People's Money" or "OPM" as it is called, to achieve my dream of financial independence. Besides he assured me that I would earn that $12,000 back in the first quarter with all of the great mentoring I was going to receive. I was now an Internet "Newbie", a term that refers to those of us who really don't have a clue about what we are doing but are doing it anyway. I had now given them my credit card numbers. Now I had access to the "manager". He called me that same day. I took notes. He kept up the "dream theme" and said I had to work hard to achieve my goals. He ended with, "Please call me when you make your first $15,000." I was ready. Article to be continued. . . .
